Desert Realm Featured Links Help Document
Featured Links are websites that have requested a personal evaluation of each aspect of their site. The evaluation consists of the quality of their web design, navigation, and content as well as the popularity of their website.
Though Featured Links range from beginning to advanced, all are worth visiting because they are willing to take critism and therefore continue to improve their website. To qualify to become a Featured Link, the website must meet the criteria to be in the Desert Realm Search Engine.
Featured Link's Ranks and Editor Scores
After the evaluation, the website will be given an Editor Score ranging from 0 to 18. Below is a list of the Ranks and the minimum score needed.
- Dragon - 15 Points
- Sage - 12 Points
- Elf - 9 Points
- Orc - 0 Points
The Editor Score consists of 3 major areas:
- Quality - Navigation, Content, and Web Design (0-10 Points)
- Quality of Websites Linking to the Featured Website. (0-4 Points).
- Popularity - measured in visitors that came from their website (0-4 Points)
To keep the Featured Links current, each Featured Website can request once per month to be evaluated again.
Top 5
The Top 5 consists of the websites with the 5 highest editor scores. Because Dragon, the highest status, is very difficult to achieve, the Top 5 may consist of Sage or Elf websites for a long time.
Dragon
The Dragon represents power and might. The website is a powerhouse with thousands of websites linking to it, generates a ton of traffic, and generally has a team of developers working full time on the website.
Sage
The Sage represents knowledge and wisdom. A typical website in this category has a large number of quality websites linking to it, generates a decent amount of traffic, and has a well thought out professional design. All websites, no matter how small, have the potential to become sage-class. It should be a goal for any who are serious about web design and development.
Elf
The Elf represents an eloquant, graceful website. A typical website in this category has been around for a while, has a decent number of websites linking to it, and has a limited number, if any, of popups and banners. Most elements of a page are there for a reason rather than because it can be done.
Orc
The Orc represents a crude, unrefined website with typically limited content. A typical website in this category resides on a free hosting server, contains an excessive amount of popups, banners, webring icons, animated gifs, horizontal scrolling, and has many screens of vertical scrolling.
