Sword and Weapons
During the height of medieval and renaissance times, the sword and mace were more common than pens. Swords were developed for many different types of fighting and cultures. Scimitars were developed in the Arab regions and had a long curved blade used for cutting. The samurai sword was developed in eastern Asia and was used by Samurais which are Japanese knights. Katanas were the eastern equivalent of the European long sword. Broadswords, long swords, and rapiers were common in Europe with rapiers being primarily used in fencing.
Today, swordsmiths work hard to develop both replicas and functional blades to be used in reenactments and to be put on display. They also make replicas of fantasy swords made popular by Hollywood such as Aragorn's sword from Lord of the Rings. Also, it's common to see a sword replica letter opener in many offices around the world probably due to the cost involved in purchasing a full sword display.
