How the Score Works
Note: The score represents a mathematical formula for each picture's total hits, average hits per day, number of comments, and time on the website. The formula has recently changed and not all of the pages are using the new formula yet.
These new conditions apply:
- Each picture has a score of 1-100.
- A picture with an average amount of activity has a score of 50.
- The higher the score, the harder it is to increase it further.
- Average hits per day are looked at in relation to other pictures that were uploaded around the same time. This is to counter the fact that new pictures receive a lot more hits, but taper off as time goes on.
- Comments are weighted into the score, which is also based on averages. If a picture has more comments than the average picture, it will be awarded a higher score.
- Other factors will be added as time goes on.
The goal of the scoring system is to provide an automated fair analysis of a picture's popularity in relation to the other pictures on the website. The actual formula will probably undergo many revisions as further analysis is done, and other factors will be added to the overall score. However, it is my intent to leave the score on a scale from 1 to 100 because I feel this is the easiest way to relate the score. Before, the number just got bigger and bigger, but it wasn't clear which pictures had a good, average, or below average amount of activity on it.
